Setting:

This book takes place at Hogwarts, one of the three schools of Wizardry. This book is the fourth book in the Harry Potter series. The main character is Harry Potter, a 14-year-old boy who attends Hogwarts. This book is told in third person, and the genres are fantasy and mystery.

Plot:

Harry Potter is ready to leave the Dursleys again. The Weasleys, the family of his best friend Ron, have invited him to go with them to the Quidditch World Cup. His friend Hermione will also be going. Quidditch is Harry’s favorite game, a sport like basketball but in the air. The World Cup is exciting, with many famous players such as Viktor Krum, the 18-year-old Seeker from Bulgaria. ( A Seeker in Quidditch tries to catch the Golden Snitch, a little golden ball with wings that ends the game when it is caught.) After the World Cup, Harry is excited to get back to Hogwarts. He is ready for a normal year, but this year will be anything but that. The news is broken to the Hogwarts students that two rival schools of magic will be joining them for an event that has not happened for hundreds of years. This event is called the Triwizard Tournament. Each school’s students may put their name into the Goblet of Fire, a magical goblet that will choose the champions for each school. The champions will represent their school in the Tournament. After a set period of time, the Goblet will dispense three names out itself, and those are to be the champions. There will be one student from each school, one from Hogwarts, one from Beauxbatons, and one from Durmstrang. (Beauxbatons and Durmstrang are the two other rival schools of magic) However, to make the tournament safer, no one under 17 may enter. Harry is fine with that, and is content to watch the Tournament from afar. When the choosing of the champions comes, it seems everything is in order. Three slips of paper come out. The names of the champions are Viktor Krum, the Bulgarian Seeker from Durmstrang, Fleur Delacour, an extremely pretty girl from Beauxbatons, and Cedric Diggory, the Hufflepuff Seeker from Hogwarts. But in an unexpected twist, a fourth name comes out, Harry Potter. Harry is shocked, and tries to prove his innocence to everyone. But even Ron has turned against him. Now Harry must deal with the Tournament without his best friend, and the Tournament will not be easy. Harry must battle magical creatures, solve puzzles, and beat the other three champions. But on top of all that, Harry must deal with other problems. These problems range from an extremely nosy journalist to Hermione’s petition for house elves. Can Harry survive the Tournament, come out on top, and deal with his new everyday life?

Recommendation:

This book had so many plot twists! Near the end, basically everything I thought about some characters was false. It was crazy, but really cool. This book continues the Harry Potter series so well, and continues the story of characters from previous books well. There is a weird part were someone chops off their own hand for a ritual. It is kind of gross, so just wanted to let anyone who was considering reading this book know. But you should definitely read this book.
