Setting:

This book takes place at Hogwarts, a magical school for wizards. This is the 6th book in the Harry Potter series. The main character is Harry Potter, a 16 year old boy who attends Hogwarts. The genres of this book are fantasy and mystery, and it is told in third person.

Plot:

Harry Potter is back at the Dursleys for his second to last time. This visit will not last as long as normal for Dumbledore, the professor of Hogwarts appears on the Dursleys's doorstep. Dumbledore takes Harry to the Burrow, the home of his friend Ronald Weasley.

After an enjoyable stay at the Burrow, Harry returns to Hogwarts. There is a new teacher, but for Potions. Professor Slughorn, a portly little man, is the new teacher. Professor Snape, Harry's least favorite teacher and previous Potions teacher, will now be teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts. But that is not the only new teaching arrangement. Harry will now be taking private lessons with Dumbledore to learn about Voldemort's past. Learning about Voldemort's past will help Harry when Harry has to face Voldemort. But on top of all of this, suspicious things are going on at Hogwarts. Harry suspects Draco Malfoy, his nemesis, of being a Death Eater. Death Eaters are Voldemort's followers. In Potions, Harry's book appears to be alive! It will give him different recipes and spells, contrary to what he is being told to do by Professor Slughorn. The person giving him all these spells calls himself the Half-Blood Prince. As Voldemort's past gets darker and darker, and Voldemort himself gets stronger and stronger, will Harry be able to defeat Voldemort in the end?

Recommendation:

This is the darkest book in the Harry Potter series so far, because there are more deaths and creepy things, like Inferni. Inferni are evil ghosts. There was a lot more romance and kissing than the previous 5 books. This book is pretty slow compared to the other books, but it gives a lot of information. I did not like this one as much as the other ones, but Voldemort's past was interesting. So if you want to find out more about Voldemort, you should read this book.
