If you read the first book of the Ranger’s Apprentice, called The Ruins of Gorlan, congratulations! I hope you enjoyed it. And if you have not read the first book, don’t read this post, go read the one before it. This one might spoil the first book. Anyway, back to the book. This is book 2 of John Flanagan’s epic fantasy series, and I think it was pretty good. Got yet another quest, and a-little mystery. It introduces some more characters, but all the old ones are still there. There are some monsters that could be potentially creepy, and some one’s head gets cut off in a duel. There is a large battle, and some blood.
As you have probably guessed, the main character of this book is Will, the Ranger’s apprentice. Fresh off the defeat of the Kalkara, the evil assassins employed by Lord Morgarath, Will is sent on another mission to find out what is going on in a neighboring village. His companions are knight prodigy and friend, Horace, and Halt’s former apprentice, Gilan. When they arrive, all the villagers have disappeared with out a trace. As they dive deeper into the mystery, it turns out to be a greater problem than expected. And in the end, it climaxes in a one-on-one showdown between an Araluen, and the evil Lord Morgarath.
