Setting:
This book takes place in Arundel, which is in the United States. The main characters of this book are the Penderwick sisters: Batty is 4 years old and loves to wear her butterfly wings, Jane is 10 and loves to write, Skye is 11 and likes to play soccer, and Rosalind is 12 and is the head Penderwick sister. This book takes place in summer, and I can not figure out the year. The genre of this book is fiction, and it is told in third person. This is the first book in the Penderwick series.
Plot:
The Penderwicks were ready to spend a normal summer at their usual vacation cottage on Cape Cod. However, they will now be spending it at Arundel, which is in Massachusetts. The Penderwick sisters love this new place, to the perfect writer's bedroom for Jane, and the secret passage between Batty's bedroom and Rosalind's. However, next door lives the evil Mrs. Tifton. She is super grouchy, but her son Jeffery is very nice. The Penderwicks have a lot of fun with Jeffery, from playing soccer to learning how to shoot a bow. However, at Jeffery's birthday party, Mrs. Tifton announces that Jeffery will be going to Pency Military Academy next year. This means that Jeffery will not be able to practice the piano, which he loves to do, or choose his own career. Will the Penderwicks be able to save Jeffery from the hands of the evil Mrs. Tifton? Or will Jeffery be sent away for ever?
Recommendation:
This book is a lot like another book, called the Vanderbeekers. I like this book a lot because each sister had different problems and different ways of dealing with them. For instance, Jane writes a story, and throughout the book you can see how different events affect her writing. Sometimes she gets writer's block, and just comes back to it later. Jeffery was a good character to add to this book, and he helped the story flow. Anyway, if you need a book to cheer you up, here is the one for you.
