Setting:
This book takes place in the U.S.A. The main character of this book is Fort Fitzgerald, a 12-year-old boy who knows magic. The genre of this book is fantasy, and it is told in third person. This is the fourth book in the series, and this book takes place around modern times.
Plot:
In the second book in this series, Fort asked the Last Dragon and the Old One of Healing magic to create a dragon. Dragons are made out of magic, so it was still possibly to create another dragon. At the beginning of this book, the dragon that the Old One of Healing made hatches. Fort names it Ember, and it thinks Fort is its' father. However, Fort's dragon problems do not stop there. A messenger from the faerie queen comes to collect Ember for the faerie queen. Fort says that the dragon she is looking for is Damian, so that Fort can keep Ember. Soon after, Fort, Jia, and Rachel go to Merlin. (Merlin was mentioned in the last book, but he wasn't as important.) Merlin will train Rachel to fight the Timeless One, and Jia too. Merlin gives Fort a dictionary for dragons, which turns out to be the entire language of magic. (After all, dragons are made out of magic.) Fort begins to show the faerie messenger the human world, and she slowly begins to get used to it. The faerie messenger has a type of magic called a glamor. This means all the not normal things she does look normal to us. Fort must protect Ember from the faerie messenger, so she doesn't learn that Fort is hiding a dragon from her. One day, Excalibur is stolen from Merlin's cottage, and is now being hidden at the Oppenheimer School, from which Fort and Rachel were expelled from in the last book. But breaking into the school will not be easy. The Oppenheimer School is in possession of a Time student, which makes breaking into the school a lot harder. Will Fort, Jia, and Rachel be able to recover Excalibur before the fight with the Timeless One?
Recommendation:
This book shows that the series usually gets better and better the farther into it you go. There were some cool plot twists, mainly having to do with the Timeless One's identity. I liked the fact that they added a new dragon, because she is super funny once Fort learns to understand her. There was the time paradox that was cool, and it had to do with Merlin. You should read this book, because it is good, but because the next one is better.
