Setting:
This book takes place somewhere in the U.S, and takes place in the future. The main characters of this book are Max and Josie, two kids in 5th grade. The genre of this book is fiction, and it is told in third and first person.
Plot:
Max is living the dream. With rich parents and a best friend named Josie, he is extremely happy. However, all good things must come to an end. On the last day of school, Josie tells him they might not go to the same school anymore, leaving Max with one question, why? However, Josie knows why. She has been pretending to be a whatnot ever since kindergarten. Well what is a whatnot, you might ask? A whatnot is an android programmed to give a rich kid a bully free school. These whatnots are supposed to be androids, but Josie is not. She has been pretending because her dad is poor and cannot take care of her. Josie sleeps at school in a "charging station", which really leads down into her own one room apartment. After the last day of school, Josie finds out that not all the other kids, besides Max, are whatnots. She meets a girl named Ivy, who was in Josie and Max's class. Ivy and Josie go back to the school to find Max. Meanwhile, Max is on his way back to school with the help of his childhood nurse to figure out the true identity of Josie. Will Max ever find out truly what is going on with Josie? And can Josie figure out why this whole thing ever started?
Recommendation:
When I started this book, I thought that it might be okay. However, as I got more and more into it, I could not put this book down. I stayed up super late reading this book, and then had to force myself to stop. This book is full of plot twists and great, lovable characters. I especially love the narrator, who has their own personality. This book is great for all ages, and it is something you should definitely read.
