Setting:

This book takes place all over Europe, but it is hard to get an exact place. It is a science-fiction-adventure novel, told in the first person. It is hard to get an exact time frame, but my guess is after modern times. The main character is a teenage human boy named Will Parker.

Plot:

Will is about to be Capped. This is when he turns 13, he is taken up by a Tripod, the mysterious metal creatures that rule the Earth. After this, he will be classified as a man. But when he detects a change in his old friend Jack, he starts to get suspicious of these shiny beasts. Also a mysterious man tells him about a community far off were men live free and un-Capped, he decides to go. Joined by his cousin/former enemy Henry, they travel far, living off the land. They pick up another companion along the way, who they nickname “Beanpole”, because he is tall and skinny. However, the journey there is not safe. Will the trio make it to the White Mountains? Or be captured by the Tripods.

Recommendation:

This is a good science fiction book, but I thought it was a little too short. The author could of added a little more of the tiny adventures that this group had, and at the end, I got confused about what was going on. The Tripods felt like a unique book, with good characters, and good plot.
