Setting:
This book takes place in New York, and the genre is fiction. It begins the adventures of the Vanderbeeker family: Laney, the youngest girl, Hyacinth, the second youngest girl, Oliver, the middle child and the only boy, Isa and Jessie, the oldest girls who are also twins, and Mama and Papa, the parents of this hectic family. This is the 1st book in the Vanderbeeker series. This book takes place around modern times, and is told in third person.
Plot:
The Vanderbeekers love their home at 141st Street. However one day, the kids find out that their landlord, Mr. Beiderman is not renewing their lease. This means that the Vanderbeekers will have to live somewhere else. Determined to stop this, the Vanderbeeker children come up with a plan. Their goal: to convince Mr. Beiderman to renew their lease so they can live there. The Vanderbeeker children decide to try to win him over with acts of kindness. However, this strategy does not work. Next, they try to make a petition to stop Mr. Beiderman not renewing their lease. This also backfires. Will the Vanderbeekers be able to save their beloved home? Or will they have to move?
Recommendation:
This book is super cute and super funny. All the characters have unique personalities, which make for some laughs. There is no violence or death, so this is the perfect book for all ages. The characters are relatable, because they deal with problems some of us go through. Anyway, if you are looking for a book to brighten your day, here you go.
